2024-2025: Week 16 Player Reports
Game 1: Team Yellow
vs. Team Purple
- Throw another full effort loss on the heap for Team Purple. They opted to put Finnin on Mark to limit his production, which he did, as Mark had a pretty irrelevant stinker of a game, but were forced to leave Freeman all alone with Foster time and time again. The slow inevitability of letting Brad have his way that close to the basket eventually was too much for Purple to overcome. Yellow has well-documented soft spots on defense that makes them vulnerable to runs. Their best strategy is to play ENOUGH defense while getting the most out of their offensive depth.
Game 2: Team White
vs. Team Orange
- I’d imagine White had this game circled on their schedule for a month, thinking it would be their big coming-out party that would turn their season around. Instead, they were soundly beaten, with none of their antics paying off. Chris roasted multiple defenders, while the supporting cast of Orange beat them down the floor repeatedly. White basically repeated the same baffling mistake that Matt V’s team did last year in the championship, by not having their most athletic defender on Chris at all times. You have to make life harder on him so he can’t make life easy for his teammates. Rob plays hard and has always been a stout defender, but he simply can’t move like he used to and it’s silly to imagine he’s the best option when Finley is 10 years younger and much more mobile. With Finley shadowing Chris and Rob and Chuck focused on much more manageable assignments on Carter and Richie, this could have been a completely different game. Matchups matter. Instead of giving themselves a chance, Chris dropped 33 and White lost by 20.
Game 3: - Team Green
vs. Team Pink
- In an absolute instant classic, this game had a plethora of would-be heroes. Ed played one of his most efficient games of the season, with 35 points and controlling the tempo for huge stretches of the game. Walus, Harley, and Southside Jake all had huge buckets down the stretch as the score bounced back and forth. But the hero of the day would ultimately be Mike Kennedy, who caught an airball and put it back in for a satisfying ending to a great game. Green is still alive!
