2024-2025: Week 14 Player Reports
Game 1: Team Yellow
vs. Team White
-Energy and intensity are weird phenomena. They aren’t always with you. It’s hard to say exactly what brings them about. But it’s unmistakable when they’re there. Sometimes energy matches and we get a great, hard-fought game. Other times, the motivated team bowls over the other team that may not have been ready for it. Unfortunately for my team, we got caught in buzzsaw to open the second half and put ourselves too far behind. As we’ve seen several times this season, we seem to win the majority of the game, but due to our defensive matchup issues, we get hit by big runs that can put us behind or have us give up leads of our own. White likely overdid some of their aggression, to the point of intentional thuggery, but kudos for to them for setting the tone and getting a big win.
Game 2: Team Purple
vs. Team Blue
-Purple refuses to surrender on the season, despite the loss of their leader, but their offensive limitations continue to create major barriers. You watch them and you can’t really say they aren’t playing hard or playing “well.” It just seems like everything they do is hard-fought. No easy baskets and none of the ridiculously open looks they were getting in the first half of the season. Look at Bobby and Matt V for example. They were both getting good looks and converting in the first 6 or 7 games of the season. Nowadays the only looks they get are rushed and contested. The lack of gravity is affecting everyone. Blue stepped on the gas all night, getting Carli working early and often. Sterna also played his best game of the season on the way to 14 points. Blue picks up a big win to stay in the top half of the league, for now.
Game 3: - Team Pink
vs. Team Red
-On a night when intensity was at its zenith, it wasn’t surprising to see TJ and Bradley going at it in this one. Both are physical players who play with emotion. But the game was certainly decided by the skill players and, overall, Ed/Paul out-dueled Colin/Declan in this one. Perhaps there’s a bit of experience showing its value in this game. Colin and Declan don’t have the years of service in these dirty games where you could call a foul on every play. I don’t think you ever truly get used to it, but it does normalize a bit. Ed’s ability to keep playing and keep a cool head is one of his best traits and it served them well in this one. Big win for Pink.
