2023-2024: Week 9 Player Reports
Game 1: Team Green
vs. Team Pink
-With both teams in desperate need of some momentum, even if their ambitions are a bit different at this stage in the season, this figured to be a hard-fought close one and it was. Mark and Rob basically sat it out, both taking minimal shots and scoring similarly. Aderman was still firing away, but his production was dwarfed by the combined efforts of Pink’s Twin Towers: Carli and Bradley. That was, basically, the entire difference in this one. Pink only got 3 points outside of the Carli/Bradley/Mark trio, which is worrisome to say the least. They continue to pillage in mucky, low-scoring games. This is probably great experience for the playoffs, when seemingly every game is like that, but they also need to find a way to optimize their offensive output as a team. It’s been pretty grim lately. They’ve scored under 60 in 5 of their last 6 games. Green’s lack of size made resistance at the rim almost impossible, so that has to be chalked up to roster construction, rather than a lack of scheme or effort. Green is still in the danger zone for the playoffs. If a couple things don’t break their way down the stretch, they could be in trouble.
Game 2: Team Silver
vs. Team Orange
-It was certainly a stroke of good luck for Team Silver to catch Orange without Rashad, who missed his first game of the season. But some credit has to be given to the slow persistence of Team Silver. They come with all their guys every week. They play hard for 40 minutes. And they seem to pull away right near the end each time. It’s a formula that’s working, even if it isn’t pretty. Antwan was up to the task of compensating for Rashad’s absence, scoring a season high 31, but they came up short and surrendered first place in the process. We’re getting closer and there are clearly 4 teams in the hunt for the first round playoff BYE. These games matter.
Game 3: - Team Gold
vs. Team Purple
-Continuing to struggle with attendance, Team Purple dropped another winnable game, surrendering 93 points to Team Gold in their largest loss of the season. Obviously Purple needs everything Kennedy brings to the table in order to win, but their other guys need to continue playing at a high level at all times. Once you lower the standard, for any reason, it’s tough to get your edge back. Team Gold continues their up and down season, scoring 90+ some weeks and giving up 90+ other weeks. There seems to be a lack of grit or intensity to this group that is holding them back. They need to abandon the passive nature of their pussy captain and go for the throat of the enemy more often.
Game 4: - Team Yellow
vs. Team Blue
-This game looked exactly like the worst two teams in the league duking it out. Lots of turnovers and inexplicable decisions all game long. Ed saved the day for Blue, putting together his most complete game of the season. He was moving well and actually barking at this teammates, which was a nice change of pace for the usually quiet Polishman. That type of assertiveness and orchestration can be a huge advantage against teams just sort of reacting in the moment. Felipe continues to shoot well while we wait for the emergence of Justin. If that never comes, this team isn’t going anywhere, but their playoff push has already begun and this win was a nice start.
