2023-2024: Week 6 Player Reports
Game 1: Team Silver
vs. Team Yellow
-Team Yellow did itself no favors by missing their most important player in a winnable game. The outcome was pre-ordained. Yellow’s path is now simplified to the outright necessity to win a single game. In order to entertain this possibility, they need all their guys there and they need all of them playing well together. At this point, it has to be both. They get Team Green in Week 7, which is an awkward matchup for both teams. Silver keeps plugging right along, securing a four-game win streak against the dregs of the league. They currently stand at 4-2, and will need a herculean effort to keep the streak going against the newly defeated Team Purple in Week 7. Still, even if they fall to 4-3 to close out the first half of the season, they can’t be too upset with where they stand. They’re safely into the playoffs where anything can happen.
Game 2: Team Green
vs. Team Blue
-Team Green grabbed their second win in a row, hoping to gain distance from their rough 0-4 start to the season. The Rob/Aderman duo is heating up at the right time to salvage the season. They’re also getting good contributions from the supporting cast: Pete Les, Keaton, and Freddy. Once Glover is available and Rob is off his minutes restriction this team could look much different down the stretch. Team Blue is sputtering at the starting gate. It’s as if they think there is a pre-season before the “real” games start. Newsflash to Team Blue: the real games have been going on for a month and a half and if the playoffs started today, you wouldn’t be in it. Pretty much everything that could go wrong for Blue has gone wrong. Let’s see if they can show some moxy in Week 7 against the beatable Team Gold and get their season back on track.
Game 3: - Team Gold
vs. Team Orange
-Team Orange continued to struggle with attendance and rightfully got beat by the balanced scoring of Team Gold. Rashad went nuclear with 46 points, just 3 shy of the record (Chris Soczek’s 49 in 2022-2023), but they gave up 94 points on the way to a 6-point loss. Hopefully everyone smashed the Over in this game. Can you imagine scoring 88 points and losing? Team Gold seems to be at a crossroads on their season. They’re 3-3, firmly in the middle of the pack where they belong. They have some good wins (Pink) and some bad losses (Green). Paul and Rodney have already established themselves as elite scorers. Finnin continues to be an animal all over the court. Troy and Schick and even Anthony Clark in the eighth round have made contributions. The math is simple. They are currently on pace to break the all-time points per game record as a team. AND THEY HAVE A NEGATIVE SCORING DIFFERENTIAL AS A TEAM. Assuming they get into the playoffs, they aren’t going anywhere giving up 80 points per game. Will that number improve? Or will it catch up to them and lead to a losing streak? Time will tell.
Game 4: - Team Purple
vs. Team Pink
-After a thoroughly enjoyable 40-Minute bloodbath, Pink emerged victorious over the previously undefeated Team Purple. This was as complete of a defensive effort as you can get. It wasn’t like Pink overloaded Kennedy or Konrad with the intention of letting others shoot instead. All matchups were, relatively, played straight up and Purple struggled to produce most of the game. Pink used some timely shooting and foul baiting from their captain and hit their free throws down the stretch to secure another win. What happens next time these teams cross paths is anyone’s guess. Certainly, lessons were learned on both sides. And, Pink will be without their fourth round pick for the rest of the season, which is a handicap they could do without. Still, this win propelled Pink into sole possession of first place in a year where the first round playoff BYE will be a massive advantage. Obviously, Pink would love to be able to not have to play Orange and Purple in the playoffs, if at all possible. The best route to that possibility is to secure a BYE, so you better believe they’ll be expending maximum effort to get that done.
