2023-2024: Week 4 Player Reports
Game 1: Team Silver
vs. Team Gold
-This might have been a matchup between the most “middle of the road” teams we have in the league this year. Both teams are solid, but it doesn’t seem to be much of a surprise when they underperform or overperform. All this is to say that it was hard to predict what you would get out of this one. Both teams were coming off their best games of the season. Gold shot lights out against Team Pink in Week 3 while Silver completed a huge comeback against Team Green. Gold had a bit of a regression on shooting and that proved to be the difference. Silver got the type of production they were looking for by drafting three offensive players with the top three draft picks. 25, 19, 19 is a great balanced attack for the Soczeks/Richie trio. Perhaps not a three-headed beast; maybe more like a three-headed puppy with spunk to spare. Finnin followed up his offensive outburst in Week 3 with an offensive dud in Week 4, which fits the mold of his career numbers. Gold isn’t going anywhere, but they’ll need to bring their best each week to get actual victories.
Game 2: Team Orange
vs. Team Green
-Without Glover’s perimeter defense, the matchups turned against Team Green. Rob found his shooting touch in the second half to put up a season-high 27, but many of them were empty calories as Orange hit the gas just often enough to stay comfortably ahead for most of this one. Aderman struggled with Rashad as his primary defender and Green just isn’t the type of team that can overcome short-handed situations. They need their team to show up and be engaged. That’s the only path out of the 0-4 hole they have dug for themselves.
Game 3: - Team Blue
vs. Team Pink
-After allowing a hard-to-fathom 96 points in Week 3, Pink got back to their roots and put the clamps on an understaffed Team Blue. Utilizing some patience on offense to spread the ball around for open shots, Pink took control early and never let Blue back into the game. Blue seems to be suffering from a cohesion/energy/enthusiasm issue right now. It’s as if they’re stuck in the starting gates. News flash: the season is already a month old. Your team is 1-3. Even when the team is together, it doesn’t look like anything special. Team Blue might be a paper tiger that will be fighting for one of the final playoff spots.
Game 4: - Team Purple
vs. Team Yellow
-Speaking of misleading rosters, Team Yellow kept their winless streak alive by getting blown out by the streaking Team Purple. Yellow has shown none of the athletic prowess we expected after the draft. They aren’t hustling. They aren’t playing physically. They aren’t getting much outside shooting other than from their seventh round pick. Yellow is reminding me of one of those high school teams where the coach gets fed up with the starters and lets the bench loose for large stretches of the game. Lack of effort and unwillingness to adjust isn’t getting this team anything other than more losses. #FreeJake. Team Purple has been in a coasting competition with Orange all season. Neither team has been tested. Well, in Week 5 they’ll play each other and the eyes of the league will be upon them. Who’s the actual top dog? Are the best two teams actually captained by Steve and Matt V? What the fuck? I’m ashamed of us all.
