2023-2024: Week 12 Player Reports

Game 1: Team Silver vs. Team Blue

-It’s nice to be confirmed right occasionally and it felt like this game was confirmation of a couple things: Silver might not be the top tier team we’ve seen during their absurd 9-Game winning streak.  Also, Blue might not be as helpless as the inconsistent turds they’ve been most of the season.  Silver had a healthy first-half lead in this one, but Blue used a balanced team effort to slowly chip away at the lead by playing some of the best team defense they’ve shown all year.  I think I saw Ed even fight through a screen once or twice.  It’s clear they need everything clicking to make things work.  Justin and Ed need to be determined, active playmakers that get good looks for others.  The complimentary players need to convert those open looks, which will in turn provide better opportunities for Justin and Ed. That’s how it works, but it requires team cohesion and effort, which haven’t been a constant for this team all year.  Silver got hit with a pretty severe drought in the second half and didn’t respond well.  But, despite losing the win streak, they’re still in great position to secure the first-round BYE.  Especially with a BYE week coming up against Team Yellow.

Game 2: Team Gold vs. Team Green

-This is the closest we’ve gotten so far for a “win and you’re in” so far this year.  The winning team was going to be in a hugely superior position to make the playoffs.  In typical Green fashion, they faded down the stretch and were losing by double-digits with a minute remaining.  Because they weren’t closer, they wasted a furious rally and still lost the game by a single basket.  I’m sure it stings, but it’s the likely consequence for playing uneven games week in and week out.  Green now needs everything to break their way to still dream about the playoffs.  It starts with beating Blue in a must-win Week 13 matchup.

Game 3: - Team Pink vs. Team Yellow

-Pink extended their win streak to a league-leading 4 games and Yellow also had players on the court at the time.

Game 4: - Team Purple vs. Team Orange

-Minus Antwan and Kennedy, this wasn’t the primetime rematch we were hoping for, but it was a nice snapshot documenting how much things have changed over the course of the season.  Purple once looked unbeatable.  Orange once looked pretty shallow.  Both of these teams were destined to be serious threats in the playoffs, and they still are, but Orange looks more and more like the team to beat as the regular season draws to a close.  It’s heart-wrenching to have Matt V back in the title hunt after a long delay, but it’s nice to a have an exciting team led by newcomers challenging the rest of the league.
