2022-2023: Week 9 Player Reports
Game 1: Team Blue vs.
Team Orange
-Finally some decent basketball games were played this week, rather than a clusterfuck of blowouts. While the result of this one was pre-ordained, Team Orange deserves a ton of credit. They played hard, led by a rejuvenated Chuck playing his best game of the season, and never gave up. In the second half, it appeared they were letting it get out of hand, like Blue has done to 4 opponents in a row, but they battled back and kept it within distance before coming up short. Blue continues their balanced onslaught. It will take a herculean effort to slow them down. I do wonder how they’ll play in a game that isn’t a shoot-out, but you’ll have to force them into it to find out.
Game 2: Team Purple
vs. Team Pink
-In the chippiest game of the night, for some reason, Team Pink ran their record to a perfect 6-0, thereby completing half of their season undefeated. Team Purple’s lack of size and interior defense was utterly exploited in this one. Carli and Mark both were able to get to the basket as often as they wanted for point blank chances. Just not enough defensive activity from Purple to make it hard on teams. I’m sure that’s what gets under Captain Hahn’s skin the most. Their offense was just fine in this one. Aderman was aggressive, Lyle was finishing shots, and Jerry even got into double figures for the first time all year. 67 was the second most point they’ve scored. However, they’ve now given up 70+ in 3 straight weeks. All losses. And now they have to wait 3 weeks to play again. Chew on that Purple Losers.
Game 3: - Team Green
vs. Team Yellow
-Looking back, it should have been obvious this would be a good game. Both teams have been up and down this year, but, at full strength, they’ve both shown flashes that they may be only a step below the elite teams. And it lived up to the hype. Green shot well as a team, even if Chris basically didn’t shoot at all from the outside due to injury. Yellow was relentless attacking the basket. Steven Jones looked like a angry bull charging the basket time and again. He definitely realized what others have realized about Team Green: that once you get past your man, there is nothing at the rim waiting for you. The same thing I though Chuck should have been doing last week was perfectly demonstrated in this one and he led the team with a game-high 27. Who woke up Matt V’s old bones? After getting skunked in 3 of his first 4 outings, he’s back hovering around 10 ppg, which he did for about 2 decades. Also a tip of the cap to the new recruit Joey, who scored 3 points and his team win by 2 points. Clearly, he was the difference.
