2022-2023: Week 7 Player Reports
Game 1: Team Blue vs.
Team White
-I was steadfast that I was not a believer in Team White. So, either I was very right about team White or Team Blue is a lot better than we thought as well. It’s probably a mixture of both that led to this beatdown. Rob continues to defer too much and finding it hard to turn on the jets when he needs/wants to. Blue ran all over them. I’m still not really sure they have a cohesive gameplan in the halfcourt. They are getting by simply running the court and spreading the ball around. It’s working well. They have plenty of shooting and ballhandling to stay on the attack. They are probably more vulnerable than they’ve looked on defense, but if they’re scoring 80-90 points a game that doesn’t matter. Team White slips to 3-2 and doesn’t look like a contender for anything. They’ll remain in the middle of the pack unless Rob goes supernova.
Game 2: Team Purple
vs. Team Yellow
-Team Purple was the other early-season Cinderella that got a rude awakening in Week 7. The expectation on them was that they would struggle to score without a single other decent scorer outside of Aderman on the roster. As expected, they are second-worst in ppg, but their second-best defense is keeping them afloat. The size of Team Yellow exposed them for what they truly are, which is a bunch of puny midgets. Purple goes back to back against Blue and Pink the next two weeks. Good luck with that. Yellow evened their record at 3-3 on the year, but it’s hard to see where they are going in the second half. They’ve been very inconsistent and I expect that to continue.
Game 3: - Team Black
vs. Team Pink
-A few weeks ago, it was hard to understand why Team Black was so utterly terrible. Ed has found his rhythm and is scoring in bunches. Jay continues to attack and has played fine (overall). There was no way to anticipate how little the rest of the roster would contribute. They have no plan going into games and make zero adjustments. They sit at 1-5 in dead last place with no realistic turnaround plan. The only 5 Guys Team Black is good at is the restaurant. Team Pink continues to play like a lit fuse. They don’t dominate in the early half and jump out to massive leads like Team Blue has been doing. They just lean on you with activity and aggression until you look up and you’re hopelessly behind. Christian went off for 9 threes in this one, showing he has always been a capable shooter. He needed a team to get him the right shots and the permission to shoot them at will. It also helped that Team Black has the laziest, dumbest defense in HatchetBall history.
