2022-2023: Week 3 Player Reports
Game 1: Team Yellow
vs. Team Orange
-Congrats to the old man Matt V for snagging his first win of the year. He doesn’t have many years left on earth, so he better enjoy it, even if it was against the pathetic Team Orange who is quickly becoming the joke of the league. While Jerry is making wine out of piss on Team Purple, Team Orange looks worse every week. Matt Koll got some shots up to help in the effort and Mike Schick looked more sprightly, but Chuck’s chucking continued at a less efficient clip and there doesn’t seem to be a plan to right the ship. Team Yellow broke 50 this week, but there is zero fluidity to their offense. To only score 56 against Team Orange is pretty tough to do. Finnin somehow only scored 11 with literally no one guarding him and Molloy somehow went scoreless. Young buck Stephania showed out a bit with 21 points and it sounds like Alex finished a few wide open layups this time around. They’ll need to find ways to amplify each other, rather than just taking turns each week We’ll know more about Team Yellow after Week 4 in their matchup against Rob’s White Nationalists.
Game 2: Team Pink vs.
Team Blue
-It’s hard to be too critical of Team Blue right now, even though they sit at 0-2 to start the year. They do play hard and clearly have some talent. They’ve played both their games without their 2nd round pick and their top contributor from Week 2 is now similarly sidelined with a mysterious injury. On top of all of this, they also likely played the consensus 2 best teams in the league so far. Justin played much better, hunting his shots and staying involved all game. Joe Vascik appears to have a good stroke and shot confidently on his way to 20 points. You can nitpick and say that the other 4 available players (Troy, Gillen, Ali, Heebner) are about as uninspiring as it gets, but with 2 big contributors potentially on the way, there seems to be an upside out there for this squad if they can hang on. Team Pink looked like a steam roller yet again. Blue made a run with some hot shooting, but Pink stayed the course and it seems like they have the depth and athleticism to outlast every other team. It’s true Mark and Christian didn’t shoot it great, but with the steady diet of interior looks they generate in transition and the secondary break, efficient outside shooting is really just a bonus. It will come and go. But they seem to have more than enough in the tank to play from ahead every time out. After the Christmas off week, we get another holiday treat in a fun early season showdown between Pink and Green. The winner of that game could have a huge advantage in securing the top seed for the playoffs.
Game 3: - Team Purple
vs. Team Black
-We knew this would be a filthy stinkpile of a game and we weren’t wrong. Black jumped out to an early lead and Purple looked like they might not score double digits on the game. But, the muskrat was unfazed and his energy, rebounding, and playmaking provided enough open shots for his teammates that some shots started to fall. Black was missing their only actual basketball players and had no answers other than letting Luke jack up 20+ shots. Falvey’s outside shooting will be a critical source of offense for the somehow 2-1 Team Purple. We’ll see what Purple is made of over their next 4 games, which are against: Green, Yellow, Blue, and Pink. But, if they can secure even 1 win in that stretch, they’ll be sitting at least at 3-4 and likely on track to make the playoffs, which shouldn’t be possible for this awful midget team.
