2021-2022: Week 2 Player Reports

Game 1: Team Red vs. Team Orange

-Everyone got their money’s worth in this one.  It took 3 overtimes to decide the outcome, with a bunch of crazy plays mixed in.  Mark hit his first buzzer beater in what feels like decades to send it to overtime and then his team squandered opportunities multiple times to close it out.  Team Orange was forced to play without their first draft pick, who is sidelined with an ankle injury, and he would have helped quite a bit in this endurance contest.  Team Red has some serious isolation talent from 3 players, but the obvious question will be how well can they play together.  Other than some broken plays, they didn’t work together much at all.  Tom O’Malley looks like a perfect fit as a spot up shooter with this group.  Everyone should circle the rematch for this one in Week 10.

Game 2: Team Green vs. Team Black

-Rob apparently spent the offseason stewing over some imagined slight done to him by Mark the ref.  But as I recall, Rob won the title last year?  So what exactly is he so amped about in his debut game?  This game was a legendary stinker.  The 41 points scored by Team Green is a new record low.  Congrats to the 0-2 Greenies.  Team Black hasn’t looked like a bastion of competency so far, but they have emerged 2-0 heading into what should be another winnable game in Week 3 against Purple.  Some interesting matchup decisions for Team Black.  If Chuck is more comfortable guarding wings, will Luke have to deal with the oaf?  Declan and Rappold look content thus far in diminished roles.  Will that last?  Is Team Black a great defensive team somehow?  What the fuck is going on?

Game 3: - Team Purple vs. Team White

-In our third highly competitive game of the night, Team Purple outlasted the extremely-thin-on-offense Team White.  It’s true that Team White was missing their second round pick, who better bring a whole lot of playmaking with him, otherwise this team will need Stan to score 15-20 points every game, which seems like a stretch.  The Purple Nurples had their complete team and had a nice balance on offense, with 5 players scoring 7 or more points.  Scoring seems to be majorly down this year with the move to 5 on 5.  Having multiple options will be critical to team success.
