2020-2021: Week 6 Player Reports
Game 1: Team Blue (Troy)
vs. Team Yellow (Matt V)
-Sitting at 4-2 with a negative point differential, Team Blue might be a fraud on paper. But for everything they aren’t (fast, in shape, well-suited for a big court, etc.) they may be one of the most consistent teams in the league. They’ve strung together 3 straight wins and the last two were both come from behind, hard-fought endurance contests. The fact that they have the ability to edge out these wins is highly promising for the playoffs where every game projects to be close. Matt V will tell you Team Yellow wins this game with Declan, but don’t buy it. There are no possessions improved having him take the final shot over Pat or Konrad. We now have 3 teams at 4-2 heading into the off week, setting up some interesting scenarios down the stretch as we solidify who will get the coveted first-round BYEs in the playoffs. Also, for anyone keeping track on your scorecard, Matt V was skunked in this game for the second time this year. Lord have mercy on his old, brittle bones.
Game 2: Team White (Hahn)
vs. Team Green (Koll)
-As the season drags on, the Week 1 upset of Team Green over Team White continues to be a shocker. This rematch solidified that the outcome of that game was a red herring for what these teams would be. Team Green was beaten easily by Team White without Steigerwald, which is bad news. They struggled to find an answer for some pretty basic post plays from The Hairless Ballhog, who they allowed to run away with 35 points. Supposedly Matt Koll won’t miss any more games, which is good news for the sputtering Mean Greenies.
Game 3: - Team Orange
(Garmes) vs. Team Red (Dudek)
-While they still struggle to put together 40 minutes of solid effort, Team Red handled the cellar dwellers of the league pretty easily. Team Red had 4 players in double figures and even Steve scored to bring his season output to an even 3.0 points per game. Team Orange Crush might as well give up on the regular season at this point, but they should keep a close eye on seeding to gauge their first round opponent in the playoffs. In Week 10, they play Team Green, who they’re only one game back of. If that holds true until then, Orange would only have to beat Green by 8 points to win the tie breaker and secure the 5th seed instead of the 6th seed. Or, they could play better and win a different game if they felt like it.
