2020-2021: Week 5 Player Reports

Game 1: Team White (Hahn) vs. Team Yellow (Matt V)

-We’re not clear why, but second-overall pick Rob Knapczyk was a no-show for this mid-season showdown and turned it into a snoozefest.  All we’re sure of is he wasn’t getting a haircut.  Team Yellow looked decisive getting good looks all game long, while the slow, plodding front line of Team White failed to take advantage of mismatches time and time again.  Of course this game would have been different with full rosters, but we’ll find out if that will tip the scales in Week 10 when these teams meet again.  Hard to say what might be at stake heading in the regular season finale.

Game 2: Team Blue (Troy) vs. Team Red (Dudek)

-The tale of two halves: in the first half, Team Blue looked exactly like the sluggish piles of fatty fat fats that people think they are, while Red raced out to a double-digit lead.  In the second half, Team Red imploded, just like we expect them to, putting up a pathetic 20 total points in the entire second half.  So, what’s the lesson here?  Did Team Red play well in the first half?  Did Team Blue play well in the second half?  Or, is the whole point of HatchetBall to not beat yourself and prioritize consistency above all else?  Sure.  All of it.  Don’t look now, but Team Blue is 3-2 and their balls are bursting with excitement to play Team Munchkin again in Week 6.

Game 3: - Team Orange (Garmes) vs. Team Green (Koll)

-In the fight for last place, Team Green continues to be a steady force each week.  Despite their losing record, they actually have a positive point differential.  If they can get a little more dynamic play from their younger guys, that would help a ton, while the Shicks put in a regular 30-40 combined points per game.  Team Orange continues to slide, now without their hippie captain, but they should have Luke back full time soon, whatever that’s worth, and they may have the best shooting quartet in all of HatchetBall at their disposal (Justin, McGinty, Finnin, Wills).  Are they going to doing anything with it?
