2020-2021: Week 3 Player Reports
Game 1: Team Blue
(Troy) vs. Team White (Hahn)
-It would be easy to say that Mark played only a quarter of the game and that’s why Blue lost, but that’s likely not true. Team Troy continued their poor play to start the season, especially on defense. This is a very bad matchup for Team Blue, even when Mark doesn’t have a gaping head wound. Team White looks deep and is playing better each week. Look out.
Game 2: Team Orange (Garmes) vs. Team Yellow (Matt V)
-In a new-school shootout, where everyone takes threes even when you have a massive size advantage, Team Orange grabbed the win in OT, dealing Matt V his first loss of the season. This game was feisty, fun, and frustrating at times. Justin needs to attack the rim more often. McGinty needs to try to work with Justin. Pat needs to shoot well every game to keep Yellow afloat. Garmes needs to pass the hashpipe and he might actually score a few points.
Game 3: - Team Red (Dudek)
vs. Team Green (Koll)
-Team Green beating Team White in Week 1 feels strange in retrospect, but it goes to show you how critical matchups are in HatchetBall. The bouncy length of Team Red disrupted Thick Dick Schick, who struggled to finish plays. If he’s not locked in, Green will struggle to find points. Team Red doesn’t really have a plan on offense. They basically pass the ball to the wing and square up a set shot. But, with the exception of Steve, Red is underrated as likely the most athletic team in HatchetBall. That matters in small ways at times, on loose balls and starting/finishing transition opportunities. You pile up a few of those and it can make a big difference. Interesting matchup in Week 4 against Team Blue, who will be desperate for a win.
