2020-2021: Week 2 Player Reports

Game 1: Team Blue (Troy) vs. Team Green (Koll)

-With this season’s style of play, 4 on 4 played on a big court, we should expect to see several games which amount to endurance contests.  In these games, it’s not so much who plays best, but simply who PLAYS for the full game.  Team Green, without their hot shooting coach, lost steam near the end of this one, letting the bully-ball Team Blue escape with the win.  The Schicks were sharp, both scoring 20+, but Team Green isn’t getting the dynamic impact from their 2nd Rounder that other teams are enjoying right now.  That could hold them back long term.  Team Blue, with their full front line, looked highly competent in the half court, but continue to look helpless defending transition.  That might be their fatal weakness.  Let’s see where things stand after an early season showdown against Team White in Week 3.

Game 2: Team Orange (Garmes) vs. Team White (Hahn)

-Without their budding rookie superstar, Team Garmes looks like a HatchetBall team of old: a bunch of creaky old farts who can’t create their own shots, so they hurl up awful attempts from deeper and deeper areas of the court from worse and worse angles.  That being said, some of these horseshit shots started falling and they made a late surge to end the game respectably after Team White was up by 15 for most of this one.  Team White looked steadier than Week 1, perhaps because of a worse opponent.  Rob had a breezy 26, Stiegerwald chipped in 18, and Big Bob added a dozen.  Team White appears to be the most balanced team, but they seem unable, so far, to string together any extended runs.  Let’s see if their consistency changes moving forward.

Game 3: - Team Red (Dudek) vs. Team Yellow (Vitaliano)

-As expected, Steve made his season debut in Week 2 and instantly killed the good vibes of Team Red.  Something about his cocky dinosaur face is acid wash to team chemistry.  Pretty much the entire roster played worse than Week 1 and Steve scored zero points.  On the winning side of the ledger, Matt V’s young guns now stand as the only unbeaten team remaining.  Let’s see how the munchkins deal with Justin in Week 3.  I predict Matt V playing single-digit minutes in that one.
