2019-2020: Week 7 Player Reports

Game 1: Team Black (Matt V) vs. Team Gold (Bob Kelly)

-Reeling from the loss of the first-overall draft pick, Team Black looked understandably shook during their Week 7 matchup.  There is no road to redemption without Rob for the already struggling Team Black, but they will be getting a replacement player that will help.  Team Gold slides their way to a .500 record and firmly out of the cellar after two wins in row.  Let’s see if they can keep it going in their rematch of the Week 1 overtime thriller against Team Orange.

Game 2: Team Blue (Matt Koll) vs. Team Green (Troy)

-It seems clear at this point Team Green has the most talented starting 4 in the league, top to bottom. They have 4 guys who can score, rebound, and defend.  All four of their starters have scored in double-digits for the last three games.  Their collective fit isn’t always pretty, but they’ve secured a 5-1 record and sit alone atop the standings.  Team Blue couldn’t muster the same offensive magic that stole a win from Team Orange the week before and they never really threatened in this one.

Game 3: - Team Red (Stove) vs. Team Orange (Jerry)

-It’s a constant refrain that matchups are critical in HatchetBall.  Team Red might be the best example of this.  At times, they look shockingly competent.  After 2 ugly losses to start the season, Team Red was 1 point away from winning their next three games.  Instead, they lost in Week 7 by 1 point to Team Blue in a winnable game and lost again in Week 8 to drop their record to 2-4.  It will be critical that Team Red secures wins against the teams they matchup well against down the stretch.  They should be able to handle Team Black (minus Rob) and Team White easily, which will help them secure a playoff spot.  “Liberal Icy Hot” Big Chuck has proven himself as a capable first-option against any team, so the true difference makers will be the supporting cast, including the Les Brothers and the bloated corpse of their once-useful captain.  The guy is averaging 6 points per game, which puts him just about even with Matt V.  Team Orange gets to 4-2 on the season, already eyeing their rematch with Team Green in Week 9.
