2018-2019: Week 8 Player Reports

Guest Report By: Dave Troy

Game 1: Team Beave (Light Blue) vs. Team Brennan (Red)

-“Not much to say about this stink-fest. Matt Koll ended up with a career night against a Steigerwald-less red team, hitting 5 threes, dishing 8 assists and hauling in 27 rebounds. As always though he comes up just a bit short, needing 28 to tie the record and 29 to break it. We even were telling him he was close, and he just couldn’t pull it out. Team red needs to make sure that Jerry and Mike are together for each game of the playoffs or they will be eliminated easily.

Game 2: Team Vito (Teal) vs. Team Kenny Konrath (Blue)

-“This game was quite the surprise. Team Teal seems to just be better without Mark. They function as a team, play tough defense, and have their competition play down to their level. In a game where Vito had to play the entire thing, you would have expected Luke’s patriotic bunch to dominate. That wasn’t the case, in fact Blue was behind most of the game. But, as has been the case for most of the year, Blue found just enough to get the job done.

Game 3: - Team Jimmy Konrath (Green) vs. Team Matt V (Dark Blue)

-“Where to even begin with this one… Matt V called in McGinty to come back after his brief hiatus to avoid injury.  He wasn’t the usual difference maker, he did enough defensively and hit shots to keep the game close, while Statham provided consistent scoring. Green needed to beat Dark Blue by 8 points to get into the playoffs after a very improbable run. So, what did they do? Come up just short and win by 7 to tie Dark Blue after Troy missed critical free throws in regulation and a very controversial over-the-back call forced it into overtime.

The decision was made to play a 5-minute overtime (at 12:20 Friday morning) to determine the playoff participant. Neither team really made any significant progress taking and giving the lead back until the game was tied. It then headed to a second, 3-minute overtime. Team Dark Blue had more to give and finally put away the good effort but ultimate disappointment that was Team Green. The entire Hatchetball community mourned over the loss of satisfaction it could have received from Matt V not making the playoffs. Troy is to blame, burn him and his poor shooting to the ground.”
