2018-2019: Week 3 Player Reports
Game 1: Team Garmes (Orange) vs. Team Vito (Teal)
-Team Teal has had the most uneven start of any team. With a decent roster, they were expected to be one of the best teams in the league and, off to an 0-2 start, one might think this team was misevaluated. And maybe they were. But both of their losses have come as a direct result of long 2nd Half dry spells. In both games, they held decent leads in the 1st Half, only to lose easily after allowing extended runs in the 2nd Half. Other than some potential conditioning issues, it’s a troubling sign to see a team fall apart all at once. They’ll need to find a way to find offense (and stops) when things bog down. Team Garmes, on the other hand, looks like a cohesive unit during their 2-0 start. We’ll see if these teams hold their current trajectories for the rest of the season.
Game 2: Team Beave (Light
Blue) vs. Team Matt V (Dark Blue)
-While Matt V will tell you they win this game easily if John McGinty plays the entire game, realize that it’s a known phenomenon for a late-arriving player to have an instant impact. Consider that coming in fresh against players who have played over half a game is a distinct advantage. Light Blue led for almost all of this one, and while Team Rat V made a push once L’il McGinty showed up, their size clearly gave Team Dark Blue some issues. Light Blue sits firmly at 3-0 and Matt V is in the muck at 1-2. And, if we’ve learned anything so far this season, it’s that there are too many fucking blue teams.
Game 3: - Team Jimmy
Konrath (Green) vs. Team Kenny Konrath (Blue)
-As seems to happen every year, Luke’s slow team continues to take care of business against the bottom half of the league. I bet if you checked Luke’s teams over the last five years, they’ve rarely pulled off any upsets, but his record is likely impeccable against teams lower down the ladder. This may speak to the ability of hustle and fundamentals to overcome a limited talent-gap or maybe that it’s annoying to play against his pesky teams. In one of the sloggiest slogs in recent HatchetBall memory, Team Blue handled the disheveled Team Green, securing a comfortable 2-1 record. Heading into a BYE week in Week 4, Luke has to be a happy camper. Troy? Not so much.
