2017-2018: Week 6 Player Reports
Game 1: Team Vito (Blue)
vs. Team Grey (Spadoni)
-In what was shaping up to be a clash of the titans, Team Vito took advantage of a depleted Team Grey to win this one easily and move to 4-1 on the season. While Team Grey has a deep front line with multiple options, unless they have the whole unit, they look like a bunch of wimps. Missing Rappold and Flawaiian changed the entire dynamic of their team. When you’re relying on Jerry to lead the scoring charge, with a season-high 14 points, you’re asking for trouble. Rob barely did anything (a season-low 13 points), and Team Blue skated to the victory. Team Blue also will benefit from their replacement for Mike Davis, who may not have the athletic power of Davis, but certainly has the size and basketball experience to be an important part of their title contention. Tip of the cap to Steve, who piled up 21 points in this one. His size and athleticism give him a plethora of scoring options each game. When his shot is falling, it makes it a lot harder to focus on stopping Rob. We all know he won’t finish those plays regularly enough to intimidate opposing teams, but the background threat that he can does make a difference. This game will get a repeat in Week 15, where we can hopefully see both teams at full strength.
Game 2: Team Garmes (Red) vs. Team Tierney (Light Blue)
-Team Red has flown under the radar so far this season, playing just their third game in Week 6. Kevin Harrigan has looked unstoppable, but their team has looked rather blah. We’ll get a better feel for them in Week 7 when they play Matt V’s Team Urine. Can they get enough team contributions to compete for a title? We’ll have to wait see if they’re for real, or just a team in between the elites and the turds. Team Tierney has fared well so far in the season and had another solid showing in this one, even with the loss. They’re deeper than most teams, but don’t do anything special. That means their margin for error is razor thin. They didn’t shoot well as a team and gave up too many easy baskets in this one. Team Light Blue has a pretty tough three-game stretch coming up against Dark Blue, Grey, and Blue. They should control their expectations and look to win one of these games. Coming into Week 11 for a rematch with Team Green (who they already beat) with a 3-4 record should be considered a triumph. Side note: Troy shooting a miserable 46% from the free throw line on the season.
Game 3: - Team Bo (Orange)
vs. Team Konrath (Dark Blue)
-Team Orange continues to stink up the gym with a miserable brand of who-gives-a-shit basketball. Dark Blue’s roster is nothing to write home about and they won this one easily. Luke* set the record* for blocked shots* with 8* in this contest, breaking his own record. Big matchup in Week 7 between the winless Orange and Green. Lord have mercy.
