2017-2018: Week 15 Player Reports
Game 1: Team Matt V (Yellow)
vs. Team Tierney (Light Blue)
-Team Light Blue continues to slide, losing this one easily. If it weren’t for solid play in the front half of the season, this team might have ended up just as bad as we expected. Fortunately for them, Team Orange’s ridiculous upset of Team Dark Blue guaranteed Team Tierney a spot in the playoffs and made this loss pointless. Their wins ended up being essential, giving them the tiebreaker over Team Konrath and Team Brennan. Let’s see what this stinkpile can do in the playoffs.
Game 2: Team Vito (Blue)
vs. Team Spadoni (Grey)
-Team Grey was shorthanded again, which has been a common theme all season, and didn’t put up much of a fight in this one. Team Grey looks like hot garbage without their full lineup; somehow the full lineup neutralizes the poor tendencies most of their roster resort to when they are carrying a heavy burden. This team still seems dangerous, assuming they show up for the playoffs; though you could easily see one player not make the game and they get bum-rushed by 20.
Game 3: - Team Konrath (Dark Blue) vs. Team Bo (Orange)
-In one of the more exciting, ugly buzzer beaters in HatchetBall history, the 0-9 Team Orange stole a critical win from Team Dark Blue, which is on the cusp of losing their playoff bid. In the short run, this game meant nothing to Team Orange, who was already eliminated from the playoffs, but in the long run, Team Orange escaped infamous immortality as a winless team. That certainly is worth something for every player associated with this ugly squad. Team Dark Blue’s playoff chances worsened with this loss. If they had taken care of business against Team Orange, they could have gotten into the playoffs by splitting their final two games with Team Green, as that would have put both teams at 5 wins and eliminated Team Tierney from the playoffs. Instead, Team Dark Blue needs to beat Team Green twice; they have no other scenarios to get in.
