2016-2017: Week 9 Player Reports

9:00 - Team Matt V (Green) vs. Team Garmes (Blue)

-There’s a wonderful component of sports that includes a bit of chance. It’s the type of thinking that gives endless hope to the underdogs of the world. For example, you may agree that one team is clearly superior to another team, but would also concede that the inferior team might win…a few games out of a hundred matchups. I’m not suggesting the gulf between Team Green and Team Blue is that big, I’m simply suggesting that when one team plays below their standards and one team plays above their average, you can get an unlikely result. Green most likely played their best game of the season, getting significant contributions from multiple players and having both Stathams locked in on their longballs. Team Blue, in contrast, had Mark struggling to hit outside shots (and some gimmes near the rim) while Luke dealt with a bum ankle and Matt Koll mustered an entire 2 points. Team Garmes didn’t answer the bell in an important statement game and let Team Green continue their undefeated season. That’s two losses in a row from Team Blue. Panic time?

10:00 - Team Tierney (Dark Blue) vs. Team Grey (Beave)

-Team Dark Blue built off the momentum from their first win of the season and took care of the hapless Team Grey. It really hurt Team Grey’s playoff chances to drop this one. Not that they’d do anything in the playoffs anyway, but they might be eliminated from playoff contention by Week 12.

11:00 - Team Guinane (Light Blue) vs. Team Brennan (Red)

-Team Red is still a question mark. It’s hard to tell if the two fresh-faced scorers they’ve added this season makes them a legit threat to anything. But a victory over Light Blue, who has given many teams trouble this season, was a nice step in the right direction. Let’s see how Team Red responds against the surging Team Dark Blue in Week 10. Can they get to .500?
