2016-2017: Week 14 Player Reports

9:00 - Team Bo (Yellow) vs. Team Brennan (Red)

-Team Yellow has managed to snag two crucial consecutive victories that put them in control of their playoff chances.  With two games remaining, Yellow only needs to win one to lock up a playoff spot.  Seeing as though they play the miserable Team Grey in Week 15, they have an excellent chance to wrap things up then.  Team Red was exposed again in this one as being extremely weak around the bucket.  If you can get bodies on their shooters while giving a little help on their primary scorers, you should be able to bully them on the offensive end any time you want. This game might have been a preview to a Round 1 rematch, so Red should already be thinking about a gameplan to compensate for their lack of size.

10:00 - Team Garmes (Blue) vs. Team Beave (Grey)

-Blue was able to stop the bleeding by handling the awful Team Grey.  Blue will finish with the third seed, falling short of those coveted Round 1 playoff BYEs.  But that might not be a terrible thing for the slumping Team Blue.  They need a few wins in a row to build some momentum before they square off in the semi-finals against Team Orange or Team Green.  After a BYE in Week 15, Blue will close out the season in what should be a meaningless game against Team Yellow in Week 16.  Then the race to the title game begins for a team that won’t be satisfied with anything other than a championship jacket.

11:00 - Team Vito (Orange) vs. Team Matt V (Green)

-In a matchup of the supposed top teams in HatchetBall, Green looked closer to the team we expected them to be, which is a capable, deep squad that will be limited against teams that can push the pace and defend beyond the three-point line.  These are the two deepest teams in HatchetBall and both were missing a starter, but Orange looked like the better team in this one even though it wasn’t a runaway.  Unfortunately for Orange, this win did not guarantee them the first overall seed in the playoffs.  Based on point differential, Team Green still holds the tie-breaker over Team Orange.  Also, Team Orange’s final game will be played without their best player against the high-scoring Team Red.  Rob would likely have feasted on the weak interior of Team Red’s defense, so the question becomes: who will make up the 30+ points he would have scored in that game?  Jerry?  lol
