Week Three Player Reports

Mark Koll: With one-fourth of the regular season in the books, it's clear Mark has a long, difficult journey ahead of him in 2015-2016.  While the cohesion and compatibility between the Koll brothers is still there, the cast of characters surrounding this dynamic duo has not been strong.  Team Orange has already faced reliability and endurance issues from their teammates.  The good news is that there's a ton of season left.  After an 0-2 start, many jealous critics around the league were salivating at the thought that Mark might miss the playoffs altogether and not even get a chance to extend his streak of six consecutive finals appearances.  However, Team Orange was able to muscle out a much-needed win in Week Three.  They needed a clutch three-pointer from Mark as time expired, but this should be the start of a run for Team Orange, as their next two matchups are favorable.

What's Next: Team Orange gets a BYE in Week Four.  They'll return to action to see another strong 1-2 punch against Team Tierney in Week Five.  Steigerwald and Mark V will be ready for the challenge, I'm sure.

Matt Koll: Matt was reliable in Week Three, stepping to the plate with strong rebounding, playmaking, and rim-protecting.  Matt is off to a fast start towards breaking the all-time record for blocks in a season.  He has 8 blocks through three games, putting him on pace for 32.  We'll watch closely to see if he can threaten that record.

What's Next: Matt will never play fantasy sports ever againnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.

Dave Troy:  Troy is sort of the forgotten son of HatchetBall.  He won a championship in his rookie year and played a pivotal role.  The next two seasons, Troy got stuck on very bad rosters.  His combined regular season record in those years was 7-17.  Pathetic.  So it's safe to say that Troy was owed some karmic recompense.  His team looks strong this year, though they haven't faced any major opponents thus far.  But most importantly, Troy fits in very well with his current team.  Two games in, his team is 2-0, and Troy is posting career numbers across the board.  It's unlikely he'll continue this exact pace all season long, but giving your teammates the confidence to pass you the ball early on is a critical piece of prolonged statistical progress.  Troy should have a banner year on a very good team.

What's Next: Team Yellow is back to work against the high-scoring Team Tierney in Week Four.

Mike Steigerwald: Since his induction into HatchetBall, Mike has repeatedly asked for a teammate to ride to glory with.  Scoring duos are very rare in HatchetBall, but this year, Mike's wish may have been granted.  Mike put in his typical 28 points in Week Three, while his running mate Mark V chipped in 26 of his own.  That's an incredible amount of production from two players and it puts a very scary strain on defenses across the league.  It seems likely that Mike's team will ebb and flow due to the matchups each week brings.  If the matchups are favorable, Mike and Mark V should terrorize defenses with an impressive dual scoring attack.  But when the matchups are tougher, this team might get blown out of the gym due to their lack of a transition game.  We'll have to wait and see how things turn out.  At 1-1, this team could go either way.

What's Next: Team Blue gets a good test in Week Four against team Daniher.

Mike Davis: After a BYE and a DNP, Mike finally found his way onto the HatchetBall court in Week Three.  After some early bumps, Mike made it seem like he never left.  He stumbled his way to a game-high 24 points and 14 rebounds, showing that he is a true dominant force.  With a better supporting cast this season, is Mike going to contend for his first HatchetBall title?

What's Next: Mike will need to come out of the paint more often against the two-headed attack of Steigs and Mark V in their Week Four showdown.

Mark Vitaliano: After a pathetic dud in Week One, during which he scored just 8 points, Mark impressed everyone with a strong performance in Week Three, pouring in 26 points and 12 rebounds.  He'll need these types of performances more than just every other game if Team Blue is going anywhere this season, so gear up young buck.

Eric Mittermann: Eric popped his HatchetBall cherry in Week Three, scoring his first field goal.  He finished with 3 points and 5 rebounds.  At this rate of progress, Eric should be averaging a triple-double by mid-season.
