Week Three Player Reports
Mark Koll: This team
remains a mystery
heading into their first BYE Week.
Mark's team look disorganized in a Week One defeat, turned it
around in
Week Two against a depleted Team Red, and then sleepwalked to an easy
slaughter
of Team Yellow in Week Three. Still,
Mark has proven year after year that all he needs is a chance and his
teams
have been an almost impossible out in the playoffs.
Regardless of the circumstances, as long as
Dark Blue scrapes their way into the playoff picture, Mark will be
there ready
for all oncomers.
He put up solid stats in Week Three, mustering 31 points, 14
rebounds,
and a season high 7 three-pointers.
What's Next: Mark has played his final HatchetBall game as a bachelor. It would seem that his numbers will only go down from here. In Week Five we get to see the married version of Mark...all bets are off.

Matt Koll: Right on cue,
the bash
brothers of Hahn the Younger and Koll the
Older put
together a real stinkfest in Week Three
against the
very beatable Team Dark Green. It's been
proven time and again, but it bears repeating: you can't win if you
don't score
points in HatchetBall.
Matt and Jerry hustled their little booties
off yet again, but without their reliable third round pick Kyle Whirity to handle the scoring load, Team Light
Green looked
ordinary. Matt littered the stat sheet
once again admirably, but with only 5 points to his credit, much of the
blame
for the loss has to fall at his doorstep.
What's Next: After a BYE in Weeek Four, Team Slime gets a chance for redemption against Team Red in Week Five in what will surely be a game played at two very different speeds.

Matt Vitaliano: It should
be credited to
Matt V when the roster he drafts plays well together on the court. Matt has had a long line of bad luck with
various collectives that have not worked.
No one is ready to admit that this is the right group of guys to
get
Matt V his first elusive championship, but they did look dangerous in
Week
Three, overpowering a solid Light Blue squad.
It's worrying that Team Orange doesn't have a lot of rebounding
or
anyone to score near the basket besides Rob, but more worrisome is that
Matt V
must have thought to himself, "Man.
I really want that first title. I
know what I'll do: I'll draft all guys who ALSO haven't won a title. That'll do the trick!" What a putz.

Rob Knapczyk: Rob has dug
himself into
what is becoming an extended shooting slump.
And I think I might know why. As
he incorporates more facets into his game post-injury (driving,
defense,
rebounds) it's taking a toll on his weak-puss infrastructure. The injury softened him up, so it looks like
it takes a lot out of Rob to be the do-it-all superhuman he used to
play
like. Meanwhile, it's been hard for him
to generate consistency with his jumpshot
because
that requires a tremendous amount of endurance, balance, and focus. Don't worry, though. Rob
will get his shot corrected and he'll be
a top three scorer regardless. On the
plus side, Rob played a great all-around game, snagging 15 rebounds and
dishing
out 7 dimes in his team's Week Three triumph.
What's Next: Rob
and company are back at it in Week Four against the Hobe Nation.

Jerry Hahn: It's always going to be difficult to blame
Jerry when
his team loses. He plays his ass off
every game, regardless of the circumstances, and it would be unfair to
ask
anything more of him. Although, he could
hit a fucking free throw every now and again.
He's shooting a horrid 20% from the stripe through three games. It's like some bizarre carnival game, only
instead of trying to make the basket and win a prize,
Jerry wants to miss on purpose so he can go jerk off on the Ferris
Wheel.
What's Next: Jerry
and Team GreenSleeves will get a week off
before
looking for their third win against Beave's
Boys.

Steve Dudek: More props
owed here to the
young HatchetBaller.
After a pretty inconsequential debut, Steve validated that he
can be a
major contributor to a contender in Week Three.
Steve is an elite outside shooter (by HatchetBall
standards, at least) and he showed why in Week Three, nailing 6 long
distance
bombs. It helped his scoring average,
but it also proved that Steve can take some of the pressure off of Rob
as he
works his way through a shooting slump of his own.
What's Next: Steve might miss
the next couple of games due to
work. Here's to the hope that he doesn't
regress when he comes back after a major step forward in Week Three.

Paul Hobe: One of the things that makes
HatchetBall great is the utter
unpredictability from week
to week. Paul's Team Dark Green looked
like the biggest stinker from this year's draft. Facing
the undefeated Team Light Green in
Week Three, it figured to be a cakewalk.
Instead, Team Dark Green played a solid team game and outlasted
the
fiery hustlers from Team Brennan. Most
importantly, Dark Green's first round pick is a legit shooter/scorer
and will
keep their team relevant. Paul still
looks unsettled on the court, but he'll round into shape once he gets a
few
more games under his belt.
What's Next: Paul
will play another solid team in Week Four against Team Orange.

Mark Vitaliano: Mark took a
big step
backward in Week Three, managing just 9 points and 4 rebounds in his
team's
loss. But Mark won't stay down for long.
What's Next: Look
for a bounce back game from Mark in Week Four against Team Lucaduc.
