Week Three Player Reports
Mark Koll: After stumbling
against Team
Dark Blue in Week Two, Mark got the Grey Goons back on track in Week
Three Against Team Reching
Ball. Mark bullied his way to the basket
time and
time again and it looks like his team finally got the message that in
order to
win, they'll need to use their speed on the fast break.
The sample size is small with only three
games played, but it seems clear that Mark's team sputters a bit in the
half
court when he isn't the one running the show.
There isn't enough ball movement or confident shooting to make
zones
shift from side to side, so breakdowns in transition are a more
profitable
target for Team Grey. Mark was solid
again, pouring in 27 points and grabbing a season high 16 rebounds. Look for his rebound numbers to remain strong
as the weeks go on; it would be surprising if he didn't average a
double-double
this season, which would be the first time he's achieved that feat.
What's Next: Team Grey has their first
BYE of the season in Week Four, and they'll need their rest, coming
back
against the solid Team Yellow-Jackets in Week Five.

Matt Vitaliano: Back in
action, Matt V
watched his team get another victory in Week Three.
He didn't do much to help the cause, with
just 6 points and 3 rebounds, but he certainly doesn't hurt his team
when he's
on the court, which I haven't always been able to say in the past. It looks obvious that Team Yellow has the
most talent of any team in HatchetBall. But this season will not be the cakewalk they
expect it to be. And I wonder how they
will respond when things get dicey. As
of yet,
What's Next: Matt
V will bring his brethren up against Team Tierney in Week Four. It shouldn't
be much of a match-up, but you
can count on the entire crowd rooting against Team Yellow.

Rob Knapczyk: Rob
capitalized on a weak
opponent and some hot shooting to put up 33 points in Week Three. He did most of his damage from deep, nailing a career-best 7 three-pointers in the contest,
which is nice,
but troubling. The worry about Rob is
that (due to his knee problems) he's lost the bounce in his step that
made him
a formidable force around the basket and on fast-breaks in the past. And this game, while impressive, didn't do
much to change that perception. He shot
well, but you can't always shoot well.
Also, Team Danaher might offer the weakest perimeter defense in HatchetBall. Most
of
Rob's shots were uncontested gimmes. Against a more active defense, like Team Dark
Blue, he'll struggle to get open looks, unless Luke and

chance to work on his inside game
against the slow-moving Team Red in Week Four.

Luke A: Luke, Luke, Luke. My God. You'd think
that by virtue of over 20 years of playing organized basketball Luke
would have
figured out how to shoot one of the easiest shots in the game (IT'S
UNCONTESTED!), but you'd be wrong, my friend...you'd be wrong. Luke continues to drop stink-bomb after
stink-bomb at the free-throw line. It's
truly pathetic. It's not surprising that
most of Luke's numbers are down this year due to a deep roster, but
there is no
excuse for his free-throw shooting to continue to be so poor,
especially for a
high-volume free-throw taker. Luke is a
career 54.6% free-throw shooter. After
this start, he'll be lucky to break 40% on the year.
What's Next: Luke will attempt to re-gather his confidence in Week Four against Team Red. Matched-up against Tierney, it's likely that Luke will get a few extra chances to right the sinking ship that is his free-throw percentage.

Jerry Hahn: When news came in that First-Round Pick
Spider Monkey
wasn't playing for Team Orange in Week Four, tremors shot through the
crowd. Jerry's team went from a clear
favorite to a possible underdog against Team Red, who had shown up in
full
force. And for most of the game, it
looked like those fears were warranted.
Red controlled the game almost from the start.
But Jerry and his Elvin brother George Georgio
refused to let Team Orange go down so easy. With
a frantic pace and tireless effort,
Jerry and company forced overtime and outlasted Team Red to move to 2-1
on the
season. Jerry played the best game of
his HatchetBall career, no doubt. He fell just two assists shy of the
second-ever HatchetBall triple-double,
finishing with
25 points, 11 rebounds, and 8 assists.
In the process, he shattered his personal record for points in a
game
and tied his record for assists in a game.
Even crazier, Hahn has started the season a perfect 6 for 6 from
the
free throw line. How long can he ride
that wave?
What's Next: After
a week off, Team Orange gets back to business in Week Five against Dark
Blue. Can their
hustle help them pull out another one?

Dave Troy: Merry Christmas
What's Next: Team
Green will get slaughtered once again in Week Four against Matt Koll and Team Blue. Or will they?
I have a strange feeling about that game...
